Let's see if I can remember.....
My first stop was in northwestern Indiana at Pokagon State Park. On my way in I see this off to my left.
Curious, I pulled over to investigate.
I thought this would be pretty neat, but not sure I'd make a special trip from PA. just for it alone. :)
The fishing as has become the norm, wasn't very good. Access to the lake was limited, and I only fished one day. It wasn't a very memorable visit as I stated in my last rant.... err, blog.
This is my new tent, and I guess you could call it "roughing it", but I'm attempting to make it as comfortable as I can.
Yes, that is a queen sized air bed and all my pillows. The orange extension cord runs to a surge protector that has my Coleman camp fridge, coffee pot, small lamp, and laptop plugged in to. Hey, when the fishing sucks I need something to do! *grin*
Next stop was Kickapoo State Park in southeastern Illinois.
Unfortunately, due to cutbacks and retirements, they were down to a staff of two, neither of which I could locate. The sign on the office door said camping sites must be done online, at least 7 days in advance, so Kickapoo was just a short stop, then on to
My tent site
This was part of the lake just down over the bank from my tent site.
Now all I need is an Illinois fishing license and I'm set to go.
Off to "Ol Joe's Bait and Tackle" where I spent about an hour
and a half talking with Ol Joe's son. He filled me in on all kinds of
important tidbits, and one was to go across the road to
The Powerhouse Bar and Grill for a good sandwich..
Turns out he knows what he's talking about.
Pork Tenderloin sandwich for $5.75 Yummy!
Day two I got in some fishing. The catching was limited to 4 fish.
This approximately 12" catfish.
This slightly larger smallmouth, and a much smaller smallmouth
and a gizzard shad.
The next day I decided I couldn't wait any longer for a haircut, and the camp host gave me the name and address's of 2 barbers in town. Steve's was closed due to hip surgery and wouldn't reopen till
"?? September" so that left
It turned out pretty good. $9 for a haircut, cup of coffee and 2 cucumbers.
That's one stop shopping!!
After doing some more exploring, I found that the "concession stand" actually served meals.
Open from 8:00 - 8:00, so I decided to try them out.
It could get expensive if they read my blog.
I spotted this on the ceiling. Kind of summed up why I took this trip.
As nic as it was at this park, it rained 2 days. The forecast also called for thunderstorms
Friday and Saturday, so I packed up and headed west.
Spent the night in Davenport, Iowa and headed back across the state line in Illinois to
Morrison-Rockwood State Park for a few days, then headed towards
Pipestone National Monument in Minnesota. More to come when wifi is available.
Sounds like a few UN eventual days. Hope it gets better!
