I was totally spoiled stopping and fishing with Arian at the beginning of my trip. Pokagon State Park in Indiana, was almost as expensive as Motel 6, and I would have preferred Motel 6 to it.... at least I think so.
There was no wifi available at the park, the fishing was terrible (if I would have been able to get my kayak in the water, I could have paddled out to where I was told a ledge dropped of and the water was deeper than 2 feet. (out about 100 yards according to a fellow at the lake) This morning I got up, made my coffee, took the milk out of my fridge and it was one big lump. Jumped in the car, drove to the Park store, and at 9:00 am Saturday morning the were sold out. Left the park at 1:30 and headed for Kickapoo State park in Illinois. About 2 hours from the Park, I turn on my phone and a little blue screen pops up telling me to pick a wireless connection??? There was the number 164, with a box that said "OK". In 2 years I have never seen this before, so I try to close the phone, except it won't close. I pulled over so I could use both hands to do a "power shutdown" and left it off for the next 25 miles. (It was fine when I turned it back on)
In the meantime, my GPS starts going crazy. Shows me driving where there are no roads, going over rivers, and all the while telling me to turn left or right on to roads that weren't there. I called my daughter and she pulled up Google maps and directed me to where I needed to be. I finally pull in to Kickapoo State Park, stop at the office for a "camping permit" and there is a sheet of paper taped to the front door explaining that due to retirements and other problems, the staff of 13 that usually works at the 10,000 acre park, fishery, and recreation area is down to TWO, so it will be difficult finding someone to assist you. Oh..... and it also explains that to camp, you need to apply on line at least 7 days in advance. I still have no wifi, so on the phone to my daughter again and ask if she could locate the nearest Motel 6. I arrived twenty minutes later, greeted by an Indian lady with a smile that could have used a few more teeth. I ask if they have any rooms available (silly question as there were only 3 other vehicles in the lot) she says Yes. I ask if they have wi-fi, she smiles and nods. I pay, carry all the things I think I may need into the room I think I'll need and am surprised to see a sofa, king size bed, fridge and micro wave. My phone needs charged so I search for an outlet...... two in the whole room! One by the bathroom sink, one being used by the fridge and microwave. All the lights go to a box in the wall with no outlets, and the light on my side of the bed has a switch that doesn't work. My coleman fridge gets plugged in where their fridge is, my laptop takes up the other in this outlet. My phone and coffee pot are plugged in by the sink. Now it's time to do my blog. I locate Motel 6 in the available internet slots, hit connect........ and it shows connected, but no internet. I try all the tricks I can think of and still nothing. It's been a bad 4 days and I'm not in the mood..... so I make my way to the office. I explain that the internet is not working, and she says "Yes, internet works" "No!! It is not working. It shows connected, but says no internet available" She tells me she will have it looked at. 20 minutes later, it works, but not well enough to load pictures (there weren't that many anyway) So....... I'm hoping once I wake up, and start a new day, things will take a turn for the better. If not, Dot may be able to hear me yelling all the way up in Maine. :) Keep me in your thoughts, and say a little prayer for me. Hoping to find some place to go tomorrow as long as this internet connection holds up.
