8-22-2013

Got up this morning and cleaned house! The tent needed swept and scrubbed due to the rain and me tracking stuff in it. After the household chores were finished, I took a drive to Sunshine Reservoir. Rod told me this would be a good place to put my kayak in, but since it is only a 65 mile drive, I decided to go without the kayak first. Stopped along the way and picked up some worms and I was off for the lake.

Beautiful!! But it looks like the water level is down a bit.

Oh well, I have my tackle box, rod, camera, and net ready
so I'm going to check it out.

Could this be the "small island" my cousin told me to take my kayak too?

I gave up..... not a worm or lure got wet. If you enlarge the photo
(Jenn!) you can see my footprints. I couldn't get within 20 feet of the
waters edge before I started to sink. My sneakers were covered with
mud almost to my ankles. Also, that ramp is to tie your boats to after
unloading them. I don't think it's getting a lot of use.

Back at the car, shoes cleaned as well as possible, I'm heading to Thermopolis
to check out the "healing hot mineral springs". Hunger set in first, so it was a stop at
the "Black Bear Cafe" for some Beer battered Alaskan Cod, home made french fries
and a mug of cold milk. (just because that's the kind of guy I am...lol)

In 1896 a treaty was signed with the Shoshone and Arapaho that gave the public
the use of the healing springs "for as long as the water flows."
The hot mineral water is maintained at a constant 104 degrees to provide the safest
soaking water possible. (The water temperature is currently 127 degrees at
The Big Spring) The heat and chemicals (at least 27 different minerals) in the water are
derived from the rocks which it passes through and from gases that
rise from deeply buried volcanic rocks.

Twenty minutes in the water, and then out for at least an hour and a half
before you can enter again. I figure tomorrow I can get in quite a few naps
between dips. LOL  It did something for me, because it is only 6:00 here
and I feel like I could sleep all night.

With any luck, she'll be back tomorrow with out her male friend ;-)
OK, I hear raindrops on the tent again. Time ti zip up the windows
and head to Mickey D's for their restroom.
I did get a shower before entering the hot springs and after, so
I'm good for a couple more days LMAO
